(Memphis 11/15/2009) At New Sardis Baptist Church they are remembering the children whose lives have been affected by abuse and neglect. Sunday, dozens of people attended a candlelight vigil. As their lights were lifted in the air, they were reminded of little Ladereon and Catereon Dunn. They were killed in a house fire after their mother left them home alone. Also of 10-month old Wynter roberts who died from blunt force trauma after staying at a daycare in Hickory Hill.
“How can we have a community that can become so outraged over animal abuse and during the same time period we have children, babies, our youth dying.” said Representative G.A. Hardaway.
Those in attendance say its time for the community to step-up and take a stand over the things that matter the most in the community. Sunday, they took a pledge to become better role models and care takes of youth.
“I think we need to speak for those who are unable to speak for themselves and I’m here to make a difference. I think we can make a difference. I think its time for us to make a difference. I think what better time than this to make a difference,” said attendee Keith Peete.
“It certainly will make a difference in the commitment that is present tonight. People who are really ready to take cause and action,” said Vicki Peete Bailey.
Action that will hopefully keep another innocent child from dying.
