- Sean Lambert Sr. and Jr. arrested Friday
- Accused of stealing copper wire from MLGW trucks
- Charged with Criminal Trespassing, Burglary
(Memphis 11/27/2009) A father-son duo was arrested early Friday morning for breaking into several MLGW trucks and trying to steal large spools of copper wire.
It happened at the MLGW service center at the 3700 block of Brunswick Road.
Deputies say the barbed wire, surveillance cameras and ‘No Trespassing’ signs did nothing to deter 43-year-old Sean Lambert, Sr. and his son, Junior, from doing their own version of ‘doorbuster shopping.’
“I do want to emphasize it was a father-son team, you don’t see that very often,” said Lt. Fred Hughes of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Dept.
He says the duo cut 9 copper spools.
“The spools of copper are on an extremely big truck, I don’t know length or weight, but I’m sure they could get a pretty penny for it,” said Lt. Hughes.
Court documents state an MLGW worker spotted a pair of bolt cutters on the ground around 1:00 a.m. and because of numerous thefts of copper wire from the trucks recently, he grew suspicious.
As he checked the area, he spotted the father-son team, dressed in dark clothing, running from the property. A group of employees chased, caught, and held them for deputies.
“We charged both with Criminal Trespassing and Theft From a Vehicle,” said Lt. Hughes.
Lambert Jr.’s mom, who asked to remain anonymous, was stunned when we gave her the news. She says she’s been trying to get a hold of her son all day.
“I’vei been trying to call him for real, and he hadn’t responded,” she said.
No idea the 23-year-old is behind bars at 201 Poplar, alongside his 43-year-old father.
It appears Lambert Sr. gave investigators someone else’s address. The Germantown homeowner who answered the door had never heard of him. But says that explains the confusing phone call he received today from a bail bondsman.
Lambert Sr.’s criminal record dates back to 1986. It includes several arrests for Assault, Theft, and Vandalism. Both he and his son are due in court Monday.
