After the February 13th fire at the Overton Square restaurant Side Street Grill, owners Harlan and Kari Betlesky moved the business to the Magnolia Room next door.
According to Kari, Side Street’s patrons have supportive by showing up at the Magnolia Room, and plans are on to rebuild Side Street.

Angie Kirkpatrick, owner of the The Kitchen in East Memphis, announced Sunday that the restaurant is now closed.

My former next-door neighbor, Barbara, swore the catfish at Hephzibah was the best catfish on the planet, especially when you needed a quick dinner to go.
Looks like I’ll never get to try the catfish or the restaurant’s signature hot wings, because Hephzibah closed a few weeks ago. Folks who drive by the bright red and black building at 3627 Park probably have noticed the plywood on the restaurant’s windows.

Johnson says, “I have a long history with Molly’s.” She worked at the original location on Lamar — which was opened by Molly Gonzales — back in the ’70s. That 25 number marks the day she began waiting at the Midtown restaurant on December 14th, 1984.

The Rumba Room, best known as a downtown salsa club at 303 South Main, is now open for lunch.
Friday afternoon, the dance floor was empty but the tables by the bar were busy with customers ordering a Cuban sandwich or Veracruz shrimp. The Cuban sandwich looked delicious: ham, pernil (Cuban roast pork), mustard, Swiss cheese, and pickle on a French baguette. It costs $8 and comes with fries.

Last night, we went to the soft opening of Stella Marris, Steve Cooper’s restaurant that had been the subject of protests by Cordovans who were concerned about Cooper’s background in adult entertainment.
